• Grew up in Leicestershire in an agricultural environment.• Went to Liverpool Veterinary School and Qualified BVSc, MRCVS• Interest was stimulated in the Nervous System by Prof Tony King (Vet Anatomy)• Pursued a PhD studying electrophysiology of the CNS at Liverpool. • Influenced by Dr Alan Knifton (Liverpool University Pharmacology) and took a Lectureship at R(D)SVS, Edinburgh University in Veterinary Pharmacology• Developed a research interest and published on the modes of action of anthelmintic drugs that have effects on membrane ion-channels (piperazine, diethylcarbamazine, levamisole, pyrantel, morantel, emodepside)• Promoted Reader and then Professor at University of Edinburgh in Veterinary Pharmacology before joining the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Iowa State University, USA• Promoted Distinguished Professor, Endowed with E.A.
